Sunday 25th October

A light drizzle farewelled us from Hue as we set off for Hoi An. This is a relatively short distance but the highway 1 upgrading made it a 3 hour journey. The changing landscapes made the trip quite interesting and the 6 km tunnel north of Da Nang cut off a mountain pass that was steep and winding. Another tunnel is also under construction on this route. The weather improved as we approached Da Nang and by the time we reached Hoi An it was fine. We had lunch at Miss Ly's place which has been a favorite over the previous trips. The deep fried wantons were a favourite for the whole group. There was plenty of time for a swim and relax in the hotel's pool before Tinh's orientation tour of the old quarter of Hoi An at 3.30pm. The late afternoon light on the buildings added a special charm to the town and it was clear that Hoi An would be special to everyone in the group. Needless to say, the clothing shops in particular got a good work out. Seven of us settled for a club sandwich light meal in the grounds of the hotel and enjoyed the balmy ambience of Hoi An.

No photos today as I only used the video camera and can't extract the stills until I get home to my PC.
